Accessibility Statement

Fylix is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities. We strive to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards and continually improve the user experience.

1. Our Commitment to Accessibility

At Fylix, we believe that everyone should have equal access to our tax filing platform, regardless of their abilities or the technologies they use. We are committed to providing an inclusive experience that empowers all users to manage their taxes independently.

Accessibility is not a one-time project but an ongoing effort. We continuously evaluate and improve our platform to ensure it meets the needs of users with diverse abilities, including those who:

  • Use screen readers or other assistive technologies
  • Navigate using only a keyboard or alternative input devices
  • Have visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive impairments
  • Use mobile devices, tablets, or older browsers
  • Experience temporary limitations or situational disabilities

2. Accessibility Standards

Fylix aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines are developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and are the international standard for web accessibility.

WCAG 2.1 Principles

WCAG 2.1 is organized around four principles, often referred to as POUR:

  • Perceivable: Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive (e.g., text alternatives for images, captions for videos)
  • Operable: User interface components and navigation must be operable by all users (e.g., keyboard accessibility, sufficient time to complete tasks)
  • Understandable: Information and operation of the user interface must be understandable (e.g., clear labels, consistent navigation, error identification)
  • Robust: Content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies

We also consider the UK Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 and the Equality Act 2010 in our design and development practices.

3. Accessibility Features

Fylix includes the following accessibility features:

3.1 Keyboard Navigation

  • All interactive elements can be accessed using keyboard shortcuts (Tab, Enter, Space, Arrow keys)
  • Focus indicators clearly show which element is currently selected
  • Logical tab order follows visual layout and content structure
  • Skip links allow users to bypass repetitive navigation

3.2 Screen Reader Support

  • Semantic HTML5 markup with proper heading hierarchy (H1-H6)
  • ARIA labels and landmarks for complex components (modals, tabs, accordions)
  • Alternative text for all meaningful images and icons
  • Clear link text that describes destination or action
  • Form labels properly associated with input fields

Tested with: NVDA (Windows), JAWS (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS, iOS), TalkBack (Android)

3.3 Visual Accessibility

  • Color contrast ratios meet WCAG AA standards (minimum 4.5:1 for text)
  • Information is not conveyed by color alone (additional text/icons used)
  • Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of functionality
  • Readable fonts with appropriate sizing and spacing
  • Option to enable high contrast mode (planned feature)

3.4 Forms & Error Handling

  • Clear labels and instructions for all form fields
  • Error messages are descriptive and suggest how to fix issues
  • Required fields are clearly marked with visual and programmatic indicators
  • Input validation provides immediate feedback

3.5 Responsive Design

  • Fully responsive layout adapts to different screen sizes
  • Touch targets are at least 44x44 pixels for mobile devices
  • Content reflows without horizontal scrolling at 320px width
  • Portrait and landscape orientations both supported

3.6 Time & Motion

  • Session timeout warnings with option to extend time
  • No time limits on completing forms or tasks (unless HMRC-mandated)
  • Option to pause or disable animations (planned feature)

4. Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, we acknowledge the following current limitations:

  • PDF Reports: Some generated tax reports may not be fully accessible. We are working on improving PDF/UA compliance.
  • Chart Graphics: Data visualizations in reports may not be fully accessible to screen readers. Text alternatives are provided where possible.
  • Third-Party Integrations: Bank connection interfaces and payment processors are managed by third parties and may have accessibility limitations outside our control.
  • Legacy Features: Some older components are being updated to meet current accessibility standards. Priority is given to frequently used features.

We are actively working to address these limitations in upcoming releases.

5. Planned Improvements

We are continuously enhancing accessibility. Our roadmap includes:

  • Q1 2026: Dark mode and high contrast theme options
  • Q2 2026: Enhanced keyboard shortcuts and custom key bindings
  • Q2 2026: Improved PDF/UA compliance for generated reports
  • Q3 2026: Voice input support for data entry
  • Ongoing: Third-party accessibility audits and user testing with assistive technology users

6. Testing & Compliance

We conduct regular accessibility testing using a combination of:

  • Automated Tools: axe DevTools, Lighthouse, WAVE
  • Manual Testing: Keyboard navigation, screen reader testing, color contrast verification
  • User Testing: Feedback from users with disabilities and assistive technology users
  • Third-Party Audits: Annual reviews by accessibility experts
